Chelsea Monroe
Chelsea represents victims of defective medical devices, medical drugs
and cosmetic products, as well as families and communities harmed by toxic
exposure. Specifically, Chelsea’s casework focuses on women’s health issues. She is a
member of the Leadership Development Committee in MDL 3060 In re: Hair
Relaxer Marketing Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation in the
Northern District of Illinois. The thousands of plaintiffs in the MDL argue they
developed gynecological cancers after using certain chemical hair relaxers. They
assert defendant manufacturers failed to adequately test the products and warn
customers about potential harms.
Chelsea also represents plaintiffs in the Paragard® IUD multidistrict litigation filed
in the Northern District of Georgia for women who suffered severe health effects
that they argue are linked to the birth control devices. Previously, she played an
integral role in furthering litigation and a favorable resolution for thousands of
women who suffered severe, life-altering effects after the implantation of
permanent birth control device Essure®, manufactured by Bayer. She has
additional experience representing individuals who were severely harmed by
LapBand, a gastric banding device intended to induce weight loss for obese
patients. These plaintiffs argued that the defendant manufacturers provided false
and misleading statements and marketing to their physicians about the safety and
efficacy of the device.
Chelsea is a member of the firm’s attorney recruiting committee and has led the
summer law clerk program for many years. She previously served on the Board of
Directors for Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center and regularly volunteers for
local charities and organizations.
Michael Pendell
Michael is a trial lawyer who represents people affected by corporate
wrongdoing, including whistleblowers, people harmed by tobacco, prescription
medications, dangerous medical devices, and victims of international terrorism.
He also represents pension fund trustees and other institutional investors in
securities, consumer fraud, and other complex class actions.
Michael served as trial counsel in a number of prescription opioid lawsuits
representing dozens of governmental entities, including states, cities, and counties
in litigation against several pharmaceutical drug manufacturers and distributors for
the alleged deceptive marketing and distribution of highly addictive prescription
opioids.
A former Naval Reservist who served in a security unit, Michael litigates on behalf
of victims of foreign terrorism and international human rights abuses. Michael,
along with other Motley Rice attorneys, is pursuing a civil action against the
financiers and supporters of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Michael represents personal injury clients, including people allegedly harmed by
tobacco products and thousands alleging harm by dangerous medical devices. He
served as trial counsel in the Engle-progeny litigation in Florida for smokers and
families of deceased smokers against tobacco manufacturers. In transvaginal
mesh litigation, he represented women implanted with Ethicon Gynecare Prolift
transvaginal mesh devices claiming serious injuries and complications from the
devices.
